ETO JAN 2025 MARCH 2025 QUESTIONS PAPER

JAN 2025 1 . Sketch and describe a main engine shaft driven generator arrangement with an electronic system for frequency correction. (16) ANSWER CLICK 2. State the applications of the synchronous motors. Discuss how a synchronous motor can function as a synchronous capacitor. Compare synchronous motors with induction motor drives. ANSWER CLICK 3.a) Explain three methods of overcurrent protection for electrical circuit. b) Explain with aid of diagram, the meaning of the term inverse current time characteristic. ANSWER CLICK SECTION II 4. With respect to Alternators onboard: a) Briefly explain True Power, Apparent Power and Power Factor? b) The alternator is rated for 750 KVA at 0.85 PF. What is the maximum load (Kilo Watt) that can be put on it? Would you be overloading the alternator if the Kilowatt reading were now 620 KW and the power factor 0.80? ANSWER CLICK 5. Explain with the help of a neat diagram the operation of a Brushless alternator. What would likely happen if one of the r...

SENSOR

Types of Sensors (1) Temperature sensors (2) Pressure sensors (3) Proximity (4) Light sensors (5) Motion sensors (6) Humidity sensors (7) Gas sensors (8) Force sensors (9) Accelerometers (10) Magnetic sensors SENSOR S ensors are devices that are frequently used to detect and respond to electrical or other such signals. A Sensor converts the physical parameter (for example: temperature, pressure, speed, etc.) into a signal which can be measured electrically. Working Principle: Most sensors function by responding to a specific change in their environment, such as temperature, light, pressure, or movement, and then converting this physical change into an electrical signal. The signal can be analog or digital, depending on the sensor's design and the application. A- Industrial Automation : Sensors monitor processes, control machinery, and ensure safety. B- Healthcare : Used in medical devices for patient monitoring (e.g., heart...

BATTERIES

BATTERIES WHAT IS A BATTERY- A battery is a combination of two or more cells in series, parallel or series-parallel combinations. 1. Primary Batteries (Non-rechargeable) Also commonly known as dry batteries Used for low to moderate power drain applications. Shape is usually flat, button or cylindrical. Voltage is produced due to chemical reaction where one of the electrodes gets consumed; usually the negative electrode. They are normally not rechargeable but some (usually the alkaline type) can be recharged. (a) Alkaline Type Battery Widely used in household devices (e.g., AA, AAA batter). Known for long shelf life and steady energy output. (b)Lithium Type Battery : Used in small electronics like watches, calculators, and medical devices. They provide high energy density and last longer. (c)Zinc-Carbon Type Battery : Inexpensive and commonly used in low-drain devices like remote controls. (d)Silver-Oxide Type Battery:  Often used in small devices like hearing aids ...
